Sidley Austin, on behalf of a confidential client, engaged True North to perform an environmental compliance audit for an agricultural and food processing company with locations in multiple states. Its multiple divisions include farming, equipment maintenance and development, product testing and research and food processing operations. The audit was intended to identify areas within the existing environmental program that required updating and development that would meet changing regulatory compliance requirements. It included an assessment of air emissions management, wastewater discharge permitting, solid waste management, land application permitting and material management planning.
During the audit, True North worked closely with Sidley Austin and the client to evaluate the health of the company’s environmental management system. Through the assessment, True North was able to identify multiple components that required attention to become compliant with existing regulatory requirements. Upon identification, True North generated a budget of services to regain compliance for each of the environmental components. With the audit’s completion, Sidley Austin and its client were able to develop a compliance program to meet the requirements of multiple regulatory programs.
